Nairobi, 11th December 2024
The Rotary Club of Nairobi South, in its tradition of spreading joy during the festive season, hosted a memorable Christmas party for challenged children from various children’s homes in Nairobi. The event took place at Shree Jalaram in Westlands, Nairobi, following a delightful screening of one of the latest children’s movies at the Sarit Centre.
This year’s event brought smiles to the faces of approximately 200 children, providing them with an unforgettable day of entertainment, gifts, and warm fellowship. The party was generously sponsored by Rasik Kantaria of Prime Bank and the Kundan Doshi family, whose contributions made the event a resounding success.
The Rotary Club of Nairobi South, under the leadership of President Ms. Skeeter Imisa, and with the energetic support of its members and the Rotaractors, coordinated the event seamlessly. The Rotaractors provided vital logistical support, ensuring that the children and their caregivers had a smooth and enjoyable experience throughout the day.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Benjamin Musau, Director of Community Service Projects for the Rotary Club of Nairobi South, highlighted the importance of giving back to the community, especially to the less fortunate children, during the holiday season.
“This event reflects the true spirit of Rotary – service above self. We are grateful to our sponsors, Rasik Kantaria and the Kundan Doshi family, for their incredible generosity, and to our dedicated Rotarians and Rotaractors for their commitment to making today’s celebration a success,” said Dr. Musau.
Reflections from Rotarian Edyta Grossmann
It was a profound experience to witness the lives of children with both physical and emotional challenges. While this is not new to me, today I saw a striking difference between how such situations are addressed in Europe and how they unfold in Kenya.
It was a day filled with both joy and sadness. It left me with vivid memories of children who, in truth, are deprived of a real childhood. Despite the many institutions dedicated to supporting these children, it’s evident that the problem remains far from resolved.
At the same time, this experience made me deeply appreciate the memories of my own childhood. 🙏🫶🙏
